Artwork for the NHPR Art Mug

Artwork for the NHPR Art Mug

Today is the first day of New Hampshire Public Radio’s fall pledge drive! This means two things:

1) You should go here to support NHPR and all the high quality reporting they do every day.

2) I can finally reveal the painting I created for this year’s art mug! (NHPR didn’t ask me to hide it or anything, but I figured it would be better if I timed it with the fall pledge drive.) So, here it is:

That’s a purple finch (NH’s state bird) next to lilacs (NH’s state flower). The NHPR 30th anniversary logo is one I designed myself. The painting was laid out in this sort of bisected way because it wraps around the mug. On one side, there’s the bird and the logo is on the other:

I’m not sure if the colors look washed out just in these particular photos, or due to the printing process on the actual mug. As you can see from the first painting above, I’m not known for my use of muted color palettes. Whatever the case may be, I’m happy to donate my artwork to support such a great resource.

It’s been fun to hear the artwork described and to hear my name mentioned on the radio all day today. The folks at NHPR have not messed up my name a single time, so I have to give them huge kudos for that!  Over the years, I’ve found most people can’t figure out how to pronounce my married name. It’s Huot – pronounced “Hewitt”,  just with the French spelling. Thanks for getting it right, NHPR!
